The International Phycological Society was founded in 1960. Our mission is to develop phycology; distribute phycological information; and foster international cooperation among phycologists and phycological societies.

We achieve our mission by publishing a peer reviewed journal, Phycologia; recognizing outstanding work in phycology; promoting participation by students; and hosting the International Phycological Congress every four years.
