International Phycological Society

The Society, founded in 1960, is dedicated to:

  • The development of phycology; 
  • The distribution of phycological information; and,
  • International cooperation among phycologists and phycological organizations. 

Membership is open to all those interested in Phycology and the society’s journal, Phycologia, is part of the membership benefits.

Student members are encouraged to apply for Paul C. Silva Student Grant – for travel and research.

The Society organizes an International Phycological Congress (IPC) at 4-yearly intervals.

The Society has a number of award programs in memory of prominent members: Papenfuss Award, Christensen Prize and Feldmann Fund.

The Society is administered by a Board of elected members, chaired by a President, who is appointed by the Board. 

The Society is incorporated in the State of California as a Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation with Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws designed to protect its nonprofit status.
